A Seat at the Table — and an Invitation to Stand Together

Today was a meaningful day in my journey as an artist.

I had the opportunity to speak on television about my work and the recent acquisition of my painting into the Government of Canada Art Collection. Sitting in that studio, I was reminded that this moment was never just about recognition. It was about responsibility. It was about using art to open doors for conversation, connection, and community.

My work is grounded in the concept of Two-Eyed Seeing, a teaching shared by Elder Albert Marshall. It reminds us that different ways of knowing can exist side by side, each offering strength and wisdom. I continue to listen, to learn, and to carry that teaching with respect as I move forward in my practice.

What I felt most strongly today was this: we are not alone in our experiences, and we are not separate from one another. We are our own community. We are our own nation of voices, stories, and perspectives. When we come together with openness and curiosity, something powerful happens. Understanding grows. Healing begins. New possibilities emerge.

This television appearance was one small step, but it represents a larger direction. I am actively continuing to apply to galleries, museums, and institutions across the country, working to place this message into spaces where it can be seen, felt, and shared. My goal has never been fame or attention. My goal is impact. My goal is to create work that does not disappear.

Today reminded me that momentum is building, quietly but steadily.

And as always, the work continues.
