Indigenous Work
This work is not created from observation.
It is created from relationship.
Each piece begins in stillness, in listening, guided by intuition, spirit, and a deep pull toward what has been carried forward and
what is still waiting to be remembered.
My practice is shaped by an ongoing process of reconnection, navigating what was not passed down, and allowing that absence, as much as presence, to inform the work.
That process continues to evolve with every canvas.
Informed by the teaching of Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall, this work moves within the space of holding more than one way of knowing at once without asking either to be reduced,
carried through a foundation grounded in Anishinaabe ways of knowing.
The animals, the land, and the figures are
not symbols placed onto the work.
They arrive as presence.
This is not about representation.
It is about connection.
Not a single moment,
but a living, moving continuum of identity,
memory, and voice.
